Renewable Resources: Wind Power Generators

More and more businesses, farming operations, corporations, and individual homeowners are returning to renewable sources of energy like wind power generators to fuel the functions of their infrastructure or homes.

Although the initial cost of installation was once prohibitive for many who would otherwise have liked to make the switch to renewable energy, advances in technology have begun to bring down that cost barrier, and individuals and businesses are switching with increasing frequency to wind turbines as a source of electricity.

From a financial standpoint, the use of the wind as an energy source translates to a single up-front cost, for the construction and installation of the turbine itself, as well as connecting it to the applicable power grid. After their initial installation, wind power generators create free energy, which can actually often be sold back to a power company.

Is it really beneficial financially to use residential wind turbines?

There is a seduction going on globally for those who want to feel good about themselves and their relationship with mother nature. Is that the reason for using alternative power? That is the reason that everyone is talking about the pros and cons of using solar and wind power, saving mother earth. But what about the unintended consequences?

Is wind power realistic on a large scale?

What is a reality now is that there are a growing number of people who have joined the church of climate change intervention and green living. As they invest and preach about wind generators and elect presidents that are Residential Wind Powerdetermined to do what ever it takes to stand in the way affordable gasoline prices and drilling projects, so that solar panels and wind turbines can be considered more affordable in the equation of cost benefit ratios, fools and their money are soon parted. The truth is, fossil fuels are by far more efficient and effective in providing vastly more useful and portable energy. Batteries and electricity are still extremely expensive and extremely less efficient at providing horse power and energy for moving goods across distances, powering construction machinery, powering generators, power plants and power grids that serve millions of consumers at one time.

Does wind power pay for itself over time and how much time?

The use of wind generators will cost the average household more than $22,000 to install at the scale that could possibly save them $50.00 per month on their electricity bills. At this rate it could take more than twenty years to pay for itself. Then there is the damage to nature and possibly the aesthetic landscape of the neighborhood to consider when planning installation of one or more wind turbines. Although telephone poles and wires are not very attractive to the eye either, white arms reaching high in the sky, some 85 to 150 feet tall, while turning with the wind, will not only look terrifyingly ominous but they will continuously maim and kill all types of birds during operation. The unintended consequences of saving one aspect of mother nature will slaughter many members of mother nature’s society at the same time. How will this make life better in the long run?

What about the unintended consequences?

Soon there will be protests about residential wind turbines causing massive kills of birds over time and various ordinary species of birds becoming threatened by extinction and reduction of flocks, should wind energy be mandated or should this method of power generation become mainstream. Some have the view that because wind is free and simply needs to be harnessed by turbines and generators to replace dirty fossil fuels as energy resources, that it will be so easy to change over to this type of system. This kind of idealism is about as realistic as the notion that man can live on Mars. If it is really true, why did this method of power generation not become mainstream and the most popular and affordable method to produce energy long before fossil fuels did?

Why didn’t we use wind power in the first place?

The truth about wind turbines and energy created by residential wind turbines and wind generators is an old idea. Windmills have been used in Europe by the Dutch for hundreds of years. Why did this method of power generation not take off hundreds of years ago? Because it is highly inefficient and expensive to use. It will never be able to power the lion’s share of the global energy consumer market. It is certainly not a method of choice because in doing so, many hardships will come to any society that is forced to follow in this direction. Being green is fine for those who wish to be green. That a choice that people should be allowed to make. Leaders that believe in green energy as a mainstay for the people are in denial or in ignorance of the laws of conservation of energy in physics. Wind power is just not efficient enough to do the work involved in moving matter about the planet at low cost. Thus breaking the backs of the people who attempt to do so on a large scale as they will be broke from the high cost of doing business on decreased output of energy and production from poor performance of the power grid that they must depend on and share on a wide scale.

Green power is fine for the backyard for the few people who share such lofty platitudes and impractical ideas and wish to feel good about saving the planet. It is bad planning for any business of scale as the inefficiency will break the budget. It is bad news for the birds and the world that enjoys the sound of tweets and twitters.
